Hello beach lovers!
It’s only fair that I tell you a little bit about myself since you may be thinking “Who is this ‘Singing Mermaid’ girl?”
My name is Kristen and I was born and raised in Virginia. Youth is precious and undervalued so I am hanging on to my twenties for dear life! I am newly married and am loving life. I have travelled along the east coast over the years and have a goal to move from my current east coast residence to Florida in the next 3 years.
Growing up, I didn’t visit the beach much, which is crazy to me because of how close Virginia Beach was to where I lived. I did occasionally visit family in Northern California about every 3 to 4 years and loved the West Coast vibes!
Once I left the nest at 19, I started travelling to various beaches along the East Coast, and it really caught my attention! As many of you have more than likely experienced, I felt calm and free when I was at the beach or on the water. Something about the salt air and endless blue really drew me in, and I just felt at peace with myself and the world. In 2016, for the first time since I was 16 years old, I was officially “single” (before I met my wonderful husband). In this year, I truly discovered myself and realized that I wanted to be a part of something much bigger. I spent literally every weekend and the occasional weekday at the beach and it became a big part of who I am today.
In August of 2018, my eyes were opened to how much our every day living can affect ocean life in a negative way (see my first blog “The Sand Dollar Story”). I knew that if there was something that I could do to avoid our ocean life from fading away, that I would do it. That is when I found Sand Cloud and other organizations where my voice and donations will actually make an impact.
I started “Blue Love Blog” to help spread the word about what steps I have taken to do my part in protecting our oceans and how you can too. In addition, you will also see posts that will tell you more about me and my every day life goals, struggles and achievements. I hope you find my writing inspiring, and believe me, I am not a professional writer, so don’t expect a best-selling novel, just my thoughts.
As always, keep our oceans beautiful and love the beach you’re on.
Your Singing Mermaid
P.S.- For those of you who don’t know me already, I do actually sing! I have never sang in a manner where I was paid for it, but I did many competitive vocal events when I was younger, sang in church (still do), and have done a few local events in public forum. I believe that I am a good vocalist, but will let you decide for yourself when I post more videos.
